Do you love walking or cycling? Or want to help other people get fitter and more active? We'd like your help! Whatever your skills, fitness or ability, we'd love to have your enthusiasm on our side. Even if one of our roles below doesn't appeal for whatever reason, or you wish to do a combination of roles, please do come in and have a chat with us as all our volunteer roles are flexible in terms of hours and responsibilities.
All our volunteers will have access to the team's online calendar and will be able to pick and choose what events they wish to help with. Sustrans will provide initial training and induction sessions for all volunteers as well as basic health and safety guidelines. You will be supported by the Hub officers. In addition to this, Sustrans holds a number of training and networking days throughout the year, and you will recieve ongoing feedback for the role. You are also able to join our online forum of volunteers where you can receive additional advice and support. In addition to this there is some potential for futher training depending on your role. All volunteers are required to log their hours online.
Volunteer Information Officer
We are looking for someone with a passion for active transportation who wants to help share the word. You would be based in the Hub itself or attending events with other Hub volunteers and staff as a source of information for anyone interested in learning about walking and cycling. You would relay information about the Hub and our events as well as being key to helping promote and encourage cycling and walking to the public. The information officer does not require the same levels of mobility or physical fitness required by some of our other volunteer roles.
Volunteer Photographer of Videographer
We are looking for someone with photography and/or videography skills who is looking to showcase their work and build experience. Ideally you would be able to attend our events and photograph or film them before sending us the finished project – either suitable photographs or an edited video which can be used as promotional material for the Hub and related future events. Candidate must have access to their own equipment and software.
Volunteer Walk Leader
We are looking for someone to help us with our current health walks as an assistant. Going forward you may be asked to lead your own walks depending on your own experience, confidence and desire to do so. Our led walks are generally no longer than 1 hour in length.
Volunteer Cycle Ride Leader
We are looking for someone to help us with our current led rides and skills and confidence sessions as an assistant. Going forward you may be asked to lead your own rides depending on your own experience, confidence and desire to do so.
Volunteer Bike Mechanic
We are looking for someone to help at our Dr Bike sessions. You do not have to be available for all the sessions, but we would prefer someone who is able to volunteer for an entire session – normally on a weekday between 10am and 3pm. Velotech or similar formalized accreditation is a must.
Our volunteers are essential to the Hub and we value them highly. Each has a specific skill set that they bring to their role, be that mechanic, walk or cycle ride leader, or an information helper at events and we look to support them as best we can.
